Heart Princess

MY FIRST BRUSH WITH DEATH

My heart had stopped about 40 minutes earlier, but my parents insisted that I be resuscitated, against medical advice. I was 1 week old.

A new cardiac procedure had been approved a month earlier, but my doctors were hesitant. Even, if I survived the operation, they were certain I'd never wake. I'd simply been dead too long. With kindness & compassion, the doctors advised my parents to say goodbye and let me go.

(Spoiler Alert! : My parents didn’t listen.)

I was dubbed "The Miracle Baby" by the local papers. At the age of 5, I became the Princess for American Heart Association (for the Blackstone Valley region of Massachusetts.)
